Makeup 101: How To Make Out-Proof Your Lipstick

Beauty columnist and makeup artist Bianca Valerio shares how to keep your lip color from fading even after a French kiss marathon with your man.

Truth be told, men hate glossy lips! The only sticky mess they know of is not from gloss, trust us! They prefer lush, natural-looking (emphasis on "looking"), and kissable lips that don't need to be retouched in the middle of a hot and heavy make out session.

The solution to this conundrum: lip stain! Here's how you can create a stained lip that won't budge using any creamy-formulated lipstick:

Step 1: Wet your lips or, even better, brush your teeth. This'll soften the dead skin on your lips. Using a damp wash cloth, gently wipe away the dead skin to reveal a smooth, supple lip surface.

Step 2: Apply lip balm (the non-sticky kind) to serve as lip primer. Rub in the balm to really moisturize your lips, as you would moisturizer on your face. Since you'll be creating a lip stain, this tends to over-dry the lips so it's best to prime them to delay the dehydration process.

Step 3: Apply one coat of creamy lipstick or long-lasting lip tint. Then, press your lips firmly together with tissue in between. This will remove the moisture from the lipstick, but retain the pigment. Press up to three times or until most of the moisture is really gone. Skip the lip liner, which can be very drying.

Step 4: Repeat step 3.

Tip: As with matte lipsticks, this process can be very drying and cause flaking. Avoid chapped puckers by refreshing your lip color with a moisturizing clear lip balm.

Voila! Now, that you've got the stain intact, your lip color won't run, budge, smear, or transfer—no matter how torrid those kisses get!
