To start toning down your over-the-top openness, realize that being approachable doesn't require coming on full force. So even though you may think you're just being friendly by gushing to your boss in the elevator, try a subtler tactic. And instead of inching this close to someone during a convo, keep two comfort-feet between you to give the other person a chance to invite you in. On the flip side, set some limits on how approachable you'll be--whether it's a chatty colleague or a guy who's blabbing your ear off at a bar. No one will think you're an ice bitch if you cut things off nicely (give a fast answer and say you wish you had more time to chat, or find someone else to introduce him or her to). You can still be a warm, open person without being all-access.
