The Makeover Your Life To-Do List: have a hot and healthy body, get flawless skin, manage finances wisely, have a kickass career, look sharp, inspire people, find love, change the world.
Sounds ambitious, but I know I'm getting there. Through Cosmo's personality development workshop with Bianca Valerio, I was given a crash course on overall fabulousness. Before I met Bianca, I had one word to describe her: BONGGA. I have to admit that her bongga Cosmo chick aura kind of intimidated me at first, but more than anything, I was excited because I was presented with the opportunity to learn the ways of the truly fun and fearless. For two hours, we talked about skin care, hygiene, love, fashion, nutrition, money, and almost everything else under the sun. You can check out the highlights of our juicy girl talk on CosmoTV. For now, let me tell you three major lessons I learned from the activity.
Lesson #1: Start With The Simple Things.
Self-improvement doesn't really have to be that drastic of a change. Things as basic as oral hygiene and perfume applied strategically can make a big difference. Sunscreen, oil-blotting paper, and cold cream could work enough wonders for the skin, and they don't even take as much effort to use. Have breakfast, eat healthy snacks, drink lots of water, and chew gum—these are easy ways to control unnecessary cravings, jumpstart one's metabolism, and get the body you always wanted to have. Make a lasting impression at work with a firm handshake and maintaining eye contact. In addition, consistency is key. Little changes, done on a regular basis, will all eventually add up to big improvements.
Lesson #2: It Has Little To Do With How Much You Spend.
I found it a bit surprising that Bianca, looking so sosyal, gave me this piece of advice: start with products that are cheaper, and then find out what works from there. But it makes sense, doesn't it? I've used several products that actually work for me, but do not cost a fortune. On the other hand, more than once have I spent on pricey stuff that works just as well as their cheaper counterparts. Some of them don't even work at all. The same applies to clothes. As long as you know the right cuts, colors, and fabrics that look good on you, nobody will be able to tell that you purchased your LBD on sale, or that your fasyon workday blazer was from your neighborhood ukay-ukay. Equip yourself with good taste, and you could save thousands of pesos. It's always good to have enough savings tucked away somewhere, whether it's in a piggy bank, or a time deposit account, don't you think? I think so too, but this will come as one of my toughest challenges yet—finding the discipline to save up and spend wisely.
Lesson #3: It's All Up To You.
So most importantly, let me say that it all begins with YOU. Me. All the self-improvement workshops in the world wouldn't help unless we find an unstoppable desire to finally take control of our lives. In my case, I only spend less than a day doing these makeovers each month. I don't have a makeup artist at my beck and call. The Cosmo team will not check on me every day, nor do I have a fashion stylist to help pick outfits for me. Bianca cannot be there every morning (or night) to tell me to eat breakfast, scrape my tongue after brushing, and stay away from boys who could mean nothing but trouble. So for the remaining 29 days or so each month, it's really all up to me.
Today, one of my questions was answered: is it too late to dream? Well, it is NEVER too late to dream, or to start making the most out of life. Being the ultimate Cosmo chick is simple, affordable, and possible. I can definitely get a hot and healthy body, as well as flawless skin. I can manage my finances wisely and have a kickass career. I can look sharp. I can inspire people, find love, and maybe even change the world. With Cosmo, I'm sure almost anyone can. You can never be too ambitious.
