For my December makeover, the Cosmo team took me to a salon to get a new cut and color. But since it's also Celebrity Month here in Cosmo, I got a bonus makeover activity—a glamorous, cover girl-worthy photo shoot.
Cosmo Glamover
First, I had my hair and makeup done by hair stylist Bea Misa of Kiehl's Stylist Series and makeup artist Grace Deang of Shu Uemura. There were no mirrors around me that time, so I had no idea how I looked. But I was in the hands of pros, so I saw no reason to worry.
I was done in an hour and I rushed to the nearest mirror to see the transformation. I saw how Grace enhanced my morena features by picking just the right shades of foundation and bronzer, giving me a golden, sun-kissed glow. For my eye makeup, she used subtle shades of brown and gold. As the final touch, she swiped pinkish nude lipstick. She used mostly neutral tones, and the overall result was a glammed-up-but-not-too-made-up effect. I loved it!
I couldn't help but gush about my hair, too! To be honest, after I had my hair cut the previous day, I thought there was not much I can do with such short hair. But after I saw what Bea did to my hair for the glamover, I realized that it wasn't true. With the right products and a little creativity, you can find so many ways to style short hair. Just check out what Bea was able to come up with for my bob.
Now that I'm dolled up, it's time to change into my holiday glam outfit. For this shoot, Cosmo's associate fashion editor Happy Lopez picked a bright red dress accentuated with rosettes, designed by Avel Bacudio. She also picked out fab accessories and shoes to match.
Then I was photographed by a pro, Vince Coscolluela. I've posed for Facebook-worthy photos and Make Over Your Life shoots, but it's really intimidating when you're surrounded by big lights. The Cosmo team was there to cheer me on, though, giving me directions on how to pose and smile. They even showed me pegs of Cosmo cover girls, whose poses I gamely mimicked! It's not every day that I get to be in front of the camera, so I might as well enjoy the experience, I thought. After several dozen clicks, we called it a day.
Final Note
How exactly did I feel as soon as we were done? Honestly, I felt a little sad that it was over. But looking back at the crazy year that was 2010, I couldn't help but wonder, Did all that really happen? It all went by so fast--my makeup lessons, my swimsuit shoot, my chat with Bianca Valerio (who, until now, remains a very good friend and mentor), my interview with a Fun Fearless Female awardee at Baseco, my striptease workout, my zip-lining dare, my first Pilates session, interviewing Cosmo Bachelor-hopefuls, my one-on-one with a financial guru, going shopping with Cosmo's fashion editor Happy Lopez, and my salon trip with the team. Whew. After all that I've experienced, I can proudly say I have been Cosmotized!
Looking back at the young, confused girl who took her chances and sent her promo entry a little over a year ago, I can only laugh and be amused at how much my life has changed since then. The moment I found out that I won Cosmo's Make Over Your Life campaign, I didn't say that 2010 was going to be my year; I said, in the words of motivational speaker Les Brown, "This is my decade."
I learned a lot of life-changing lessons this year. But I'm sure there'll be more challenges in the years to come, now that I'm pretty much on my own, without the monthly activities Cosmo planned for me throughout 2010. Believe me, there are still so many things I want to change and improve about myself. I can't say that after this year, everything else will be easy. But at least now, I'm confident that it is possible.
In closing, let me take this opportunity to thank the entire Cosmo family (which I'm happy to be a part of now!), all the Cosmo readers who've encouraged and inspired me since Day One, and of course, my family, friends, and former colleagues who supported me along the way.
I hope you all enjoy the holidays, and I wish you better things to come in 2011!
Lots of love,
Amie
