MAKE OVER YOUR LIFE
Makeover Your Life Activity: End The Year With A Fab New 'Do!

The easiest (yet trickiest) way to change your looks is through changing your hairstyle--whether you get it straightened, permed, colored, cut, or extended. It can make or break your look, though, and it's the "break" part that actually scared me out of doing anything to my hair the entire year.
Yes, I was totally clueless about what to do with my hair, so I just grew it out. It came to a point when styling it became such a chore that I just got into the habit of wearing a ponytail or putting it up in a bun--everyday. Good thing Cosmo chief Zo Aguila set an appointment for me to get a new cut and color at AlCUTraz Hair Studio.
Just as I felt about every Make Over Your Life activity we did throughout the year, I was scared and excited at the same time. I've worn my hair short before, but I wasn't really a fan of changing its color. Well, to be honest, as much as I liked my hair color the way it was, I did want to experiment with it but I wasn't sure if I could pull it off. Then again, I was in the hands of experts, so I just set aside all my doubts. "Kayo na ang bahala," I said. I gulped down the complimentary iced tea served at the salon to distract me.
I involuntarily winced the moment I saw a huge chunk of my hair get cut off. I grew this out for almost a year! I thought. But the moment I saw my finished cut right after it was blowdried, I felt refreshed. It was like looking at a younger version of myself--and I didn't even have to put on any makeup!
But we weren't done yet. Zo and the staff of AlCUTraz talked about giving my hair a new base color and highlights. Now that was something I never tried before. Changing the color was fine, but highlights? They're too drastic for me. But, oh well, this wasn't called a MAKEOVER for nothing, right?
So I just sat there, chatting with the Cosmo team and the friendly salon staff, until it was time to rinse it off. I couldn't recognize myself at first, what with my dark brown Victoria Beckham-esque hair now styled with golden brown streaks. But I loved it! I suddenly felt edgier yet still chic and classy. The cut showed off my features, while the color made my morena skin glow more. And one of the best parts? No more boring ponytails! I couldn't wait to show the look off to my family and friends!
This activity taught me another lesson about taking risks: when in doubt, ask the experts. If you aren't quite sure what to do with your hair, ask someone, maybe a friend who's good at self-reinvention or a trusted hair stylist. Don't just fall for sales pitches--ask your stylist what colors, styles, and cuts would suit your face shape, skin tone, and lifestyle.
If you don't have a "trusted" stylist yet, check out AlCUTraz Hair Studio at the second floor of Metrowalk. They offer the same package we did for my makeover, which includes a cut, color, and highlights, at an affordable price range, depending on the length of your hair. Besides, this is the perfect time to give yourself a new look, as you welcome the New Year!
