We're all too familiar with the aches and pains that come with the common flu. If you're especially sensitive to the changes in the weather or temperature, you need to know how to stop your sniffles in their tracks. Avoid all that sneezing and wheezing with these tips:

1. An antihistamine may be helpful
if you have drainage, which is either a runny nose, post-nasal drip, or itchy watery eyes. Most OTC (over the counter) antihistamines often make people drowsy and also make secretions thick, which can be a problem for people with asthma. Ask your MD which meds are best for you.

2. Once you've got it
, pop an OTC painkiller or ask your doctor for a painkiller prescription, which will make aches feel less severe. Get as much rest as you can, drink liquids to stay hydrated, and eat right to keep your immune system in fighting form.

3. If OTCs aren't for you
, try using salt water or a saline solution to clear congestion. Taking hot, steamy showers can also help clear your nasal passages.
