Everyone can be an advocate against HIV/AIDS—you don’t even have to be a pop star like Fergie (pictured here in MAC’s campaign for their lip collection, Viva Glam, which benefits their AIDS Fund) to make a difference. Every bit you do to help create awareness about this disease, prevent it from spreading, and help those who have been infected will really count—from buying a lip color that supports the cause to being protected each time you do the act and posing for photographs and sharing their strong statements.
On World Aids Day, December 1, MAC Philippines held a selling activity in their stores, and Cosmo visited the one in Glorietta to show support for the MAC AIDS Fund. Marc Nelson, Gino Rufino, and Rovilson Fernandez (yes, even these hot men!) were among those spotted helping sell the lip colors.
The MAC AIDS Fund supports more than 400 charitable organizations worldwide that are working to combat the epidemic each year. The philanthropic arm of MAC Cosmetics has given over $130 million to organizations in over 57 countries since being founded in 1994—which they generated from 100 percent of sales from Viva Glam lipstick and lipglass, the full P950 sale price of which is donated to the cause.
Meanwhile, HIV/AIDS local advocates have come together with various local organizations working for the promotion of sexual health—such as Victoria Court, DKT Philippines (makers of Trust, Frenzy and Premiere condoms), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the UNAIDS—to come up with a campaign to increase consciousness on HIV/AIDS prevention.
These advocates are neither models nor celebrities—these are real everyday people whose lives have, in one way or another, been touched by the disease. Some have friends living with HIV, while others have loved ones who have already succumbed to the disease. And there are those who are living with HIV themselves. This is what brings them to make a bold move to state their rights when it comes to HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
Wearing nothing but the AIDS ribbon, the universally recognized icon of support and empathy for HIV/AIDS, these advocates bared their all as a testament that everyone can do their part to keep the promise and stop AIDS. View their photos and statements in the gallery below.
