If you’re not such a fan of going to the gym to lose weight and keep fit, you should know that you have the option to join the running bandwagon in an effort to jumpstart a healthy, sexier lifestyle. After all, it seems almost every week we hear of marathons and running events that a lot of our friends and colleagues are excited to be part of.
In fact, there’s one on Saturday, October 24, 4PM, at Subic Bay sponsored by Nike. Now on its second year, the Nike+ Human Race 10k gives you, Cosmo chicks, a chance to run with not just fellow Pinoys but also the rest of the world simultaneously, in an effort to bring together all running and fitness-lovers—something you should aspire to be, if you aren’t one yet. Nike is hosting runs in more than 30 cities around the globe, making it the world’s biggest run.
For the 2009 race, Nike also partners with the annual Subic International Marathon, so you can be sure this is one big and fun running event—the perfect excuse to go out of town this weekend. Strap on your comfy, high-performing, and cutting-edge running shoe (try the newest Nike Lunarglide+), don your fab running outfit, and you’re good to go.
Run For A Cause
If getting in shape is not enough motivation for you, then maybe this one would be: This year’s run partners with Gawad Kalinga’s Walang Iwanan program that will provide relief and clean-up work for the nine GK sites ravaged by typhoon Ondoy (known as Ketsana internationally). Nike Philippines will be donating P10 for every kilometer ran by a Nike+ Sportband user who joins the Nike+ Human Race Ambassadors Challenge at NikeRunning.com. And on October 24, every finisher of the Nike+ Human Race 10K in the Subic International Marathon will automatically convert their run to a P100 donation.
And, if you can’t make it physically to the actual course on October 24, here’s one cool news for you: with the innovation of NikePlus.com and the Nike+ Sportband, you can turn any path you tread on into a race course on that day as it allows you to still participate by logging your run, as the Nike+ Human Race is made open to anyone, anywhere. The Nike+ Sportband 2.0 gives runners real-time performance feedback on their distance, pace, time, and calories burned by just glancing at their wrist.
A Healthy Excuse To Go To Subic
The Nike+ Human Race will be staged at the scenic route of Floridablanca SCTEX Toll Gate Plaza to Remy Field Subic Bay, as Nike sponsors the 10K leg of the Subic International Marathon. Successful finishers will be given the Nike Finisher’s Band to certify their accomplishment of running with the world. Visit www.subicinternationalmarathon.com/sim09/ to find out how to register through Smart Communications.
Furthermore, in preparation for the world’s biggest run, Nike rolled out a series of running clinics, headed by veteran running coach Rio dela Cruz, in universities and key running areas around the metro for both beginner and seasoned runners. Coach Rio taught participants the proper way of running, how to monitor their progress, and how runners can maximize their potential in time for the October 24 Nike+ Human Race 10K. For those who missed the earlier schedule, another set of training clinics is set on October 23, Friday, at the Nike Park, Bonifacio High Street.

3. Before you do the running make sure that you are comfortable with what you are wearing most especially with your shoes so that your feet won't get hurt.
