Cosmo Challenge: Race To Rebuild The Nation This September
Posted on August 26, 2010 10:00 am by Regina Belmonte, Assistant Beauty Editor

Yes, our nation has been through a lot of drama lately, especially with the recent hostage-taking tragedy in Manila. Now's the time to step up and inspire hope by doing your bit to help the community.
It doesn't have to be something so difficult like exiling yourself in a far-flung area to do missionary work (although you could, whatever floats your boat). It can be something as fun as going to a local tourist destination and joining a race. If you've got the time to spare and the legs for running, catch a flight to Camarines Sur and take part in the biggest marathon in Southeast Asia, the Summit Water CamSur Marathon.
Running is the latest health craze to hit the nation, and CamSur, the Philippines' premier watersports hub (their wakeboarding is world-class, if you didn't know—they've hosted the World Wakeboard Championships and the Asian Wakeboard Championships), isn't about to be left behind in the race. They're doing it bigger and better than everybody else, naturally!
CamSur's 2010 "Race to Rebuild the Nation" marathon will provide a new physical challenge for up to 20,000 participants, with 3K and 5K races for newbies, and 10K, 21K, and 42K runs for seasoned enthusiasts. The marathon's theme was the brainchild of CamSur Governor LRay Villafuerte and Gawad Kalinga's founder, Tony Meloto. The marathon is for the benefit of Gawad Kalinga, which is one of our most successful nation-building organizations. It will also promote the Organ Donor Card awareness drive, which is headed by DOH Secretary Dr. Enrique Ona of the National Kidney Transplant Institution, and benefit the K.I.D.S. Foundation.
One of the marathon's highlights will be a special "Bayanihan Run" where teams of 15 will race to raise money to fund new GK communities.
Of course, as an added bonus, there's P2.3M in prizes at stake. That's US $50,000!
If you're not a running enthusiast, though, head out anyway to spot some wakeboarder eye candy, or try out the watersports for yourself. You can also visit the gorgeous Caramoan Islands, or just get some sun—and a well-deserved break! (That way, you get to help boost tourism again, too.)
Are you ready to race? Register online at www.camsurmarathon.com, pick your category, and fill out the form. It'll cost you P400 to P900, depending on the category you choose. Registration runs until September 12, 2010, so get to it!
