Cosmo Recommends: A Pizza Haven In The Heart Of Ortigas

Tired of the same old pseudo-Italian restos around the metro? Bring your pizza-and-pasta-loving troop to this cozy place.

If the same old pizza places make you wave that white flag because of simple sawa, there's a restaurant in Ortigas that has something refreshingly delicious to offer your pizza-and-pasta loving barkada or family. Check out Abbondanza Pizzeria Ristorante, located at the ground floor of Crescent Condominium along Pearl Drive, Ortigas (near the main gate of University of Asia and the Pacific), where you can find, get this, one of the largest pizzas in the metro.

Abbondanza, Italian for "abundant," truly lives up to its name with its signature pizza: the Abbondanza Pizza, a 27-inch, thin-crust, rectangular pizza that can be garnished with up to four out of ten available topping combinations. This gluttony-inducing treat can be enough to leave your entire group of eight to 12 persons with full stomachs--and this for a truly reasonable price. Imagine only shelling out P990 for such a humongous treat that can feed so many!

Aside from their pizzas, Abbondanza also serves pasta and rice dishes that are already good for at least two persons. You can ask for a "small" serving if you're going solo.

Highly recommended pasta delights include the Spaghetti Abbondanza (small, P120; regular, P225) that features the resto's house sauce (a mixture of ham, chopped carrots, and freshly chopped parsley); and the Pasta Alla Pescatora (small, P120; regular, P225), with white wine sauce and a variety of seafood. They also have the Penne el Quattro Formaggi (regular only, P225) that will surely make cheese lovers go crazy, with its mix of mozzarella, tallegio, parmesan, and brie.

If you just can't swear off rice, Abbondanza offers a variety of rice dishes, too! Enjoy rice the Italian way with Risotto Al Funghi Porcini (P260), a tasty mix of Arborio rice, wild mushrooms, basil, parsley, and cream; or the Risotto Con Sogliola (P300), which features Italian rice with fish fillet and lemon. You can also try their sumptuous baked chicken with vegetables dish--the Pollo Arrosto (P280). Or if you're not really feeling that guilty, you can also order the Salsicce al Vino Biance con Potates (P280), which literally means sausage with baked potatoes.

You also won't be able to leave this cool, yellow-themed resto without sipping a glass of Italian soda (P60 for 12 oz. and P75 for a 16oz. glass, available in blueberry, watermelon, passion fruit, raspberry, fresh fruit, blue Curacao, cucumber, and pomegranate flavors) or trying their mouth-watering desserts: tiramisu (P125), Panna Cotta (P95), and Crema Catalona (P95).
