While incoming typhoon Pepeng (known internationally as Parma) has changed path, it is still expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds.
According this video of the CNN weather report about Pepeng, Northern Luzon and Metro Manila will receive the brunt of what is expected to be a “super-typhoon.”
ABS-CBN news reported that as per PAGASA, “Pepeng has intensified further, now packing winds of 195 kilometers per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 230 kph” and was “sighted 440 km east of Catarman, Northern Samar and is moving 24 kilometers per hour in the general direction of Northern Luzon and the Taiwan area.”
They have already declared Storm Signal no.1 in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Quezon, Aurora, and the Polilio Islands.
So be sure you are prepared for this impending typhoon. Here are some tips:
1. Stock your kitchen and storage cabinets with supplies, water and food—especially those that don’t spoil easily.
2. Charge your mobile phones, laptops, emergency lights, and other gadgets that would help you in case of an emergency.
3. Make sure you have flashlights, candles, and spare batteries at hand. Also keep a first-aid kit handy, the suggested contents of which you can find here.
4. During a flood, make sure you put the safety of you and your family FIRST. People must come before property, and be ready to evacuate when asked to do so. For more specific steps on what to do during a flood, click here.
5. If you or a relative or friend would, God forbid, need to be rescued or evacuated, you can dial these hotlines: National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC): 911-1873, 911-5061; Philippine Red Cross: 143, 527-0000; and Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA): 136, 896-6000.
6. When the waters subside, find out what to do here.
Be safe, Cosmo girls.
