Pinoy Movies To Watch For In 2010: Viva Films
The sleeping giant that is Viva Films has awoken and will try to reclaim its crown as one of the busiest film outfits this year—with five new flicks for the first two quarters.

We always eagerly anticipate Hollywood blockbusters, but for 2010, we should try and have even a bit of that enthusiasm for Pinoy flicks, too—especially now that competition among film outfits are becoming greater. The once-prolific Del Rosario movie company, Viva Films, is getting busy once again, as they are now shooting FIVE movies simultaneously. Some of them are exciting remakes of films that may be very familiar to you.
Working Girls 2010
This is not a remake of the classic Ishmael Bernal contemporary comedy of the ‘80s about the female 9-to-5 class; it is actually a sequel, with original cast members Gina Pareno, Maria Isabel Lopez, and Carmi Martin reprising their roles. But this time, they have new officemates, which include Jennylyn Mercado, Cristine Reyes, and Eugene Domingo. This is written and directed by Joey Reyes, and we were told that they are only three shooting days away from wrapping up the film.
Of All The Things
Regine Velasquez and Aga Mulach’s reunion movie was originally intended for Valentine’s 2010, and Richard Gutierrez, the ‘Valentine film king,’ reportedly gave way for them, but it seems the romance flick will not make it in time for the day of hearts. It is directed by Joyce Bernal.
Hating Kapatid
Two movie princesses of different generations will join forces in this yet-to-be re-titled drama (they want to use a song title, hence the pending change). Judy Ann Santos and Sarah Geronimo will be paired for the first time as sisters, of course, based on the working title.
Petrang Kabayo
ABS-CBN’s Showtime recently rediscovered a comedian in the person of Vice Ganda, so Viva bought the rights to the Pablo Gomez-original comics that was turned into a fantasy-comedy flick once produced by its rival studio, Regal Films, that then starred Roderick Paulate.
Tumbok
No, this is not a sexy movie (despite the title), but a horror flick, to be helmed by new director Paul Daza. Starring Cristine Reyes, it revolves around the old saying that a house built in front of a street bears bad omens.
More Viva movies are on the planning board, while we have yet to hear from the usually busy Star Cinema, Regal Films, and GMA Films about their first offerings for the year.
