The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) has designated single comfort rooms in its main campus situated on E. Jacinto Street in Davao City as restrooms for all genders.

The Philippine Daiy Inquirer reports that ADDU President Fr. Joel Tabora, S.J.  made the announcement about the "all-gender" restrooms on Thursday, September 8, through a memo on a dialogue with the school's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.

Tabora had explained, "The dialogue, I pray, shall foster greater insight into and understanding of the LGBT community and the needs of others who interact with it, even as I already initiate certain changes in the management of our physical plant. All single CRs in the Jacinto Campus will now be designated as 'all-gender.'"

Tabora added, "This is not only because Davao City has special legislation proscribing discrimination against the LGBT community, but moreso because ADDU is itself positively committed to cultural sensitivity, intercultural dialogue, and cultural transformation in favor of a society that is more accepting of diversity, including gender diversity, based on a fundamental recognition of the dignity of all."

More establishments may be doing the same move in solidarity with the country's LGBT community.

It turns out that the Bonifacio Global City branch of Jonas—a food spot known for its pares—has also tagged its restroom as all-gender.

The restaurant could have easily labeled it as a restroom for everyone. But it makes a very bold statement by putting up a sign labeling the restroom as one that's for all genders.
