"The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed criminal complaints against Daniel Angelo Salasalan for falsely claiming that his cash deposits had ballooned to P12 billion following the system glitch that hit the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) last month," reports Virgil Lopez on GMA News Online.

The report noted: "Salasalan is facing complaints for falsification by private individuals and use of falsified documents under the Revised Penal Code and online libel under Section 4(c)(4) of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012."

"Salasalan himself wrote to BPI, apologizing for his claims. He admitted that he "cropped" the digits as part of a joke, but later realized that he should not have posted the screenshots," reports Ghio Ong in The Philippine Star.

Salasalan's confession comes way too late as the story of his billions went viral. He was even interviewed by some media outlets.
