A Californian couple are on top of the world as proven by their mind-blowing wedding photo shoot. Ashley Schmieder, 32, and James Sissom, 35, climbed Mount Everest to mark their big day.
Last year, Ashley decided that she wanted an adventure wedding. However, she and James didn't have a destination in mind yet when they got in touch with adventure photographer Charleton Churchill.
"Charleton was contacted by Ashley on Instagram. Initially, Ashley and James asked him for a suggestion of an exotic tropical location. He, however, suggested Everest instead, and the couple—both avid backpackers and hikers—rose to the challenge," reports Christina Capatides on CBS News.
The couple trained for nine months for their Mount Everest journey.
"On March 5, they flew to Kathmandu, spent a night at a hotel, and began preparing for their major trek. Through a company called Mountain Madness, they booked an English translator, a lead guide, and a chef. They were also provided three porters to help carry their duffel bags. In order to make sure Schmieder's dress and Sissom's tux remained wrinkle-free, they carefully folded the items into a cardboard box carried by a porter," explains Rose Minutaglio in People.
The report further reveals that Ashley "wasn't able to take a proper shower." She used face-wipes to clean up and she did her own makeup using a small compact mirror in her tent prior to the photo shoot.
Ashley told People, "We joked when we got back, I was like, 'I feel like I'm the ugliest bride ever!' We hadn't showered in a week and dry shampoo would not touch my hair. I didn't feel pretty at all, so I was so happy when I saw how the pictures came out!"
After their photo shoot, the couple boarded a chopper for lower ground. As for their honeymoon, they just want to go "somewhere relaxing."
