A few weeks ago, everyone had something to say about Emma Watson because, according to reports, she had been kicked out of the starring role of La La Land (you know, that film with Emma Stone that won loads of awards) because she was too much of a "diva."
Part of the reason no one could stop talking about those reports? Because the news was so damn shocking. How could Emma Watson—brilliant, feminist, intelligent Emma Watson—be a 'diva'?
Aaaand it turns out that that the reports were unbelievable for a reason. Because they weren't actually true.
Emma Watson has now officially squashed any suggestions that she's impossible to work with, revealing why she really decided against appearing in La La Land in an interview with Sirius XM's Town Hall on Friday.
"It's one of these frustrating things where names get attached to projects very early on as a way to kind of build anticipation or excitement for something that's coming before anything is really actually agreed or set in stone," Emma said, explaining that when La La Land was mentioned to her, she was already signed on to do Beauty and the Beast.
And Beauty and the Beast required a lot of work on her end.
"It wasn't a movie I could just sort of step into," she explained. "I knew I had horse training, I knew I had dancing, I knew I had three months of singing ahead of me and I knew I had to be in London to really do that.
"This wasn't a movie I could just kind of parachute into. I knew I had to do the work, and I had to be where I had to be. So, you know, scheduling conflict-wise, it just didn't work out."
So no, Emma is not a diva. She just can't do two massive movies at once—especially if those two massive movies each involve months of singing and dancing lessons. Fair enough, really.
