Msgr. Arnel Fuentes Lagarejos, the priest who was arrested after he was caught bringing a 13-year-old girl to a motel, has been released after posting bail of P120,000.

Senior Superintendent Roger Quesada, Marikina police chief, explained that Lagarejos is facing charges for violating the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003.

Quesada told ABS-CBN News: "Yung nangyari kasi dito wala pa kasing lumalabas na intercourse pero nasa loob na sila ng [motel]. Kaya parang human trafficking. (What happened here is that even though no intercourse transpired between the priest and the girl yet, they were already inside the motel. That's why it's human trafficking.)"

Quesada said that the parents of the girl can still file for rape if they want to.

The report adds, "Meanwhile, Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, Eastern Police District director, has ordered a thorough investigation of the case following reports that the priest already met with the minor twice and had sex with her once."

The Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that the Church did not pay for the bail. "Not even one centavo," Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz was quoted as saying.

Cruz states that the money came from the Lagarejos family.
