When she was one of the contenders for President of the Philippines in the May 2016 elections, Sen. Grace Poe was plagued by the issue concerning her citizenship.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court finally ended the controversy (in a manner of speaking).

"The SC voted 9-3 in favor of declaring Senator Grace Poe as a natural-born citizen," reports Manila Bulletin.

It may be recalled that the petition against Poe was filed by Rizalito David, a losing senatorial candidate in 2013.

The Philippine Star explains, "David had questioned Poe's eligibility to run in the 2013 elections and her right to serve as senator. He argued that Poe, a foundling, cannot be considered a natural-born Filipino because of the 'absence of proof of blood ties to a Filipino father or mother.'"

But the decision, announced by SC spokesperson Theodore Te, reads, "The Court relied on the presumption that all foundlings found in the Philippines are born to at least either a Filipino father or a Filipino mother (and are thus, natural born, unless there is substantial proof otherwise)."

Te continues: "Concluding that foundlings are not natural-born Filipino citizens is tantamount to telling our foundling citizens that they can never be of service to the country in the highest possible capacities."

Poe, as everyone knows, is the adopted daughter of the late actor Fernando Poe Jr. and his wife Susan Roces.
