My Return To Saturn

Cosmo Associate Fashion Editor Happy Lopez wonders if she's been hit by the astrological "Saturn return," something a lot like a quarter-life crisis.

I got to spend a relaxing time in Boracay for three days recently, and despite it being a press junket, it was still a fun time to unwind and meet other press people. We were a small group of five, which was why it was easy to bond and talk about anything, even if we were from different publications.

One constant topic we had was astrology, thanks to Walter Ang, the representative from the Philippine Daily Inquirer. This guy is absolutely into astrology and it was really aliw to hear his expertise on the subject. As early as the first day, while at the airport for our early morning flight, he immediately bonded with us by asking about our zodiac signs. He was quite spot on with our sign profiles. For instance, he said that since I am a Cancer, I am probably very emotional and moody, and have a thing with my mother, which was rather accurate. He even mentioned the signs I'm most compatible with, for future reference.

When he found out I was turning 29 this year, he was all too excited to talk about another astrology topic called the Saturn return, which happens usually at ages 29 or 30. A Saturn return is when the planet Saturn returns to the position it was on the day you were born, which is said to take place after 29.5 years. It is said that at this point, you will have a lot of life-changing experiences, because it causes you to either let go of things, people, choices, careers that are really not meant to be part of your life, or lead toward what is really intended for you now that you are at your true mature stage. You may lose someone you love, whom you thought was your future husband, or you may finally get that dream job you've wanted since your childhood. A Saturn return forces you to face real responsibilities and what is expected of you, now that you're supposedly mature.

One can say it's one's quarter-life crisis and a time of a lot of endings, which is why most say it is quite a difficult stage in one's life. This is when you are at a crossroads, and it's a period of painful, hurtful, and tough choices. You just hope and pray that you'll survive it and make it through, so that you'll be ready to face what is truly meant for you. Just think that the universe is conspiring to bring you to your true self and what is really destined for you. This made me think of my own life.

I must admit that I'm going through a lot right now in all aspects of my life. Am I going through my own Saturn return, as Walter said? He said that usually, it will focus on just one major section of your life, make you deal with it and face it head on, no matter how hard. It will push you to the brink until you reach your destined point and be at the right place, at the right time. It makes me wonder what part of my life Saturn is ready to cook up this year. I'll just have to suit up my armor, wait, and see—hoping that in the end, I'll find the true and real me.
