The Power Of Red Lipstick Posted on December 12, 2011 07:00AM | 0 Comments »
I was never really a big fan of the red lip until MAC's Ruby Woo shade landed on my desk two years ago. One look at this true red, and I knew it would be a red that I could finally wear without feeling (or looking) silly.
Since that day, I've made it a habit to wear a bold red shade once in a while, making sure to keep the rest of my face devoid of too much color. At most, I'll wear jet black eyeliner on my upper lash line and dust some bronzer on my cheeks.
Some Hollywood celebs who rock the red lip every single time are Angelina Jolie, Gwen Stefani, and Dita Von Teese. I love how they always seem to look so comfortable in their reds, and how they never let the color wear them.
They always own it.
For our December beauty editorial "Sexy From Dawn 'Til Dusk" (pp.186-192), assistant beauty editor Regina Belmonte and I did three day-to-night looks that demonstrate how easy it is to inject some glamour into your daytime or office makeup look. Out of all the looks, I'd say punctuating your lips with a bold color like red is the easiest and most noticeable way to take your look from day to night.

A New York State Of Mind Posted on December 9, 2011 02:00PM | 1 Comment »
The energy in New York is just incredible. This is what always astonishes me each time I visit the city. I was lucky enough to be able to go back this year and take in as much as I could. I've been to other countries and cities, but it's always a new adventure when I'm in the Empire State, one of the fashion capitals of the world. And, the fashion fanatic in me knew I was at the right place, and at the right time to be in New York.
I decided to skip all the tourist-y stuff this time, since I've seen and done them before. Instead, I focused on everything and anything fashion-related. With only a week to spare, I carefully planned out my itinerary with the help of my brother, Frankie, and his fiancee, Nicolle.
First on the list was a visit to the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) to check out the exhibit Sporting Life, which showcased sportswear from the mid-19th century to the present. Ever since I was a little girl, I've always dreamed of attending FIT. Being there brought me back to Grade 3 when a teacher asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up and which college we wanted to attend. I remember saying I wanted to be in fashion and go to FIT. I ended up going to another fashion school, but I will always remember that moment and my dream to go to FIT to pursue fashion at a young age. -
My Grown-Up Christmas (Play)List Posted on December 5, 2011 07:00AM | 1 Comment »
I love Christmas songs. My friends can attest to my unusual habit of humming tunes like "Jingle Bells" and "The Christmas Song" whenever I'm bored, and sometimes even in the middle of June! They remind me of being in the glee club in the seventh grade and learning how to harmonize, of class singing competitions where everyone would dress as Santa's helpers, and of dancing around on Christmas Day to whatever new musical toy or gadget my parents got for me and my sisters when we were younger.
Though I have Christmas songs on my mind throughout the year, it's only when December rolls in that I start listening to them for fun. Now that I'm (sort of) grown up, the same old standards I hear playing over the annoying mall speakers when I go gift shopping just don't have the same effect on me anymore. So, to keep the yuletide spirit alive, I've created a playlist of modern Christmas songs that I groove to as I anticipate the holidays.
There's a combination of both original songs and remakes of classic hits on my list. I've picked out a few of the more radio-friendly ones to share with you here, in the hopes of inspiring you all to make your own holiday playlists. (Here's a hint: Create personalized playlists to burn on discs for your loved ones--it's a heartfelt gift that costs next to nothing but will surely make an impression on the recipients!)
So, without further ado, here are some of the songs playing on my iPod now: -
Guys Can Have Fun At A Christmas Bazaar, Too Posted on December 1, 2011 03:30PM | 0 Comments »

We all know that by this time we should have already started our Christmas shopping. As for me, I just started last weekend at the Noel Christmas Bazaar held at the World Trade Center. It's a huge Christmas bazaar that has everything from wholesale shirts and novelty items to a wide variety of food stalls, and it spanned the entire Main Hall.
It’s like they brought Divisoria to the World Trade Center, only better. Because exhibitors are subjected to product screening, shoppers are assured of unique and quality finds you won’t usually see when you visit shopping malls on a regular day. -
Styled By The Silver Screen Posted on November 23, 2011 07:00AM | 0 Comments »
I love old movies. I've always been intrigued by how good films can capture the way people look, act, and dress in other eras, places, and circumstances. But it was only this month, when Cosmo.ph zeroed in on the fashions and models that are popular today, that I realized how some of my favorite films have influenced me much more than I ever thought possible.

Wardrobe is such a vital component of movies. Where would Dorothy be without her ruby slippers (which were originally silver in the novel, but were changed to red to take advantage of the newly-developed Technicolor film)? Where would Andie Walsh be without her infamous hand-made pink prom dress? Would Holly Golightly still be an iconic figure without her Little Black Dress?
