I love old movies. I've always been intrigued by how good films can capture the way people look, act, and dress in other eras, places, and circumstances. But it was only this month, when Cosmo.ph zeroed in on the fashions and models that are popular today, that I realized how some of my favorite films have influenced me much more than I ever thought possible.

Wardrobe is such a vital component of movies. Where would Dorothy be without her ruby slippers (which were originally silver in the novel, but were changed to red to take advantage of the newly-developed Technicolor film)? Where would Andie Walsh be without her infamous hand-made pink prom dress? Would Holly Golightly still be an iconic figure without her Little Black Dress?

While thinking about fashion and my own style muses this month, it occured to me that I incorporate the stars of my favorite childhood films into my daily life through my clothes. There are so many films out there that are dedicated to fashion, like Coco Before Chanel, The September Issue, Funny Face, and The Devil Wears Prada, but none of these really struck a chord with me--I never was much of a fashionista. What I am, though, is a film buff and a pop culture geek. Last month, I even shared how I bought dresses solely because they remind me of Disney princesses.

I wouldn't have it any other way, though. After all, who's better to turn to for fashion inspiration than the most memorable cultural icons of my past? Now, if only I had a wardrobe department to update my closet just like in the movies...

Launch the gallery to see six films that have somehow embedded themselves into my style consciousness over the years. And tell me when you comment: Which films have influenced your sense of style?
