Temptation Island

When I was in college (wow, I feel old just saying that!), the hippest place to be every sem break was "Bora." My blockmates would usually stay there for three days or more and come back to school sun-kissed, glowing, and bubbling over with so many juicy stories. As for me, I would just sit on the sidelines and listen to their tales.
I don't know why, but I never felt the slightest bit of interest to see the island during those times. See, my family used to go there every summer--way before airlines had direct flights to Caticlan and back when Bazura was the only party place on the entire beach stretch and the huts of Red Coconut were considered the height of "luxury" accommodations. With the rise of so many commercial establishments (and stories of how everyone's favorite paradise is slowly decaying), I lost interest and put Boracay at the bottom of my favorite destinations list.
Fast forward to January 2011: I ate my words. The whole Cosmo team trooped to Discovery Shores and Nami Resort in Boracay for two cover shoots and our planning session. Seeing the beach's powder-fine white sand brought back so many childhood memories! I re-discovered my long-dormant swimming skills, got to eat in really interesting restaurants, and—most importantly—discovered why people just can't get enough of this sun-drenched haven.
Boracay assaults your senses, and you can't help but give in. The red-gold sunset is a visual feast, the cool seawater feels divine on a scorching day, and the fine sand is so unbelievably comfortable to walk on, even when the sun is at its highest (that's because Boracay's sand doesn't have iron!). Everywhere you look, there's a nook that sells yummy food. And yes, beautiful people of all shapes and nationalities walk, sunbathe, swim, dance, talk, eat, and if you're (un)lucky, make love by the shore. It's where you go to feed your hunger, in more ways than one.
Yes, Boracay has changed a lot, but I've learned to accept the developments. It really is a jewel, and I suppose we Filipinos must share one of the best treasures we have with the rest of the world, eh?
You must go there this summer, girls. Follow suit. Make new memories. Mark many firsts. Check out the March 2011 issue of Cosmo to see the new restos you simply must try there. And be sure to launch the gallery to view photos from our trip!
