What REALLY Happened During The Centerfold Shoots
Our chief Zo Aguila spills juicy details about working with each celeb boy.

I’m torn every time we produce the September issue. On one hand, there’s the hard work and drama that come with it: manager negotiations, complicated shoot concepts, and celebrity schedules. But, on the other hand, it comes with many fun moments of bonding with the steamiest boys in the country, laughing over their kulit-mode antics, and watching with baited breath as they each strike their sexy poses.
At Cosmo, September is one of those times of year when we can go all-out boy crazy—and be proud of it. Guys, after all, are worthy of the admiration. While there may be those who break your heart or drive you nuts, there are still the noteworthy sweethearts who manage to surprise you with their gentlemanly ways and sweep you off your feet. They’re the ones who—without prompting—guide you through a crowd, consciously order for your drink refill, or who genuinely listen when you’re ranting about work or life. It’s to that specific breed of men that we tip our hats and celebrate this month of men, men, men.
Sure, we’ll drool over six-packs and sculpted shoulders, but Cosmo chicks celebrate the men who make our hearts flutter with their real-life sweetness and genuine appeal—in spite of their career or celeb statures.
Here, a rundown of my favorite centerfold boyfriends (I wish!) and some Cosmo-exclusive off-cam surprises and anecdotes from our experience of working with this year’s waaay-hot hunks.
At the end of the day, I conclude: These celebs do deserve the limelight. And it isn’t because they look scorching on Cosmo’s pages, but because it was a pleasure and privilege to work with them. Thanks, guys! You’re the best!

Cosmo spotted the Younghusband brothers a couple of years back, and they’ve been on our wishlist ever since. While James was part of the Bachelor Bash show in 2008, we were still waiting to get Phil. This year seems to be our lucky year. Phil was a pleasure to work with. And we found it adorable how he’d pose seductively for the camera and gamely peer with us into the little camera screen after each shot. Add his pretty-boy charm to that to-die-for accent (many times during the shoot, we found ourselves tongue-tied!) and you’re set for boyfriend wishes, nighttime fantasies, and then some....
Joem Bascon is as playful as he is scorching, so imagine the fun riot we had in the studio with him on board. (Think: Him walking in boxers around the studio—we were NOT complaining at all!) He had no qualms about playing our tattooed “bad boy.” With his studly scruff, hot bod, matinee-idol looks, and undeniable oozing sex appeal, we must say his Cosmo comeback is waaay more scorching than his debut in 2007. Welcome back, Joem!
Arriving on the scene laidback and entourage-free, we were instantly charmed by Sid Lucero. Though we’ve spotted him in sexier settings (we hear some of his indie roles top it!), it was endearing to see him nervous and conscious during his Cosmo shoot. Before the shoot, he was laughing giddily and almost in disbelief that he was going to pose sexily for a magazine. We assured him and said, “It’s Cosmo anyway!” So, Sid took the challenge and expertly seduced the camera. He was a natural!
Cute and unassuming, JC Tiuseco makes a Cosmo comeback now sexier and more mature. During the shoot, JC naturally made us feel at ease with him and super kilig at the same time. Some onlookers watched as we were shooting JC and were even calling out his name. Shyly, he waved at them and flashed a conscious grin—so cute! JC was part of our 69-bachelor count in 2007, and since then, we’ve seen him transform into the drool-worthy stud you’ll see in the Cosmo Men booklet. Welcome home to Cosmo, JC!
We spotted this “Brapanese” import and instantly knew he’d create a buzz across fun, fearless females everywhere. The first time we lay eyes on Daniel Matsunaga was at our office, when he walked in for his go-see. He had us at his cute Brazilian accent–laden hello. During the shoot, Daniel was so kengkoy that we had to stifle kilig snickers when he cracked jokes and made faces off-cam. We’re pretty sure he’ll make you smile, too.
When Xian Lim was part of the bachelor shoot last year, Paula, our former editorial assistant, and I were so mesmerized we couldn’t concentrate while directing him. So, imagine how the staff and I felt when we had to direct him as part of the Centerfolds batch this year! But, Xian was all pro, so it was a privilege to direct someone so down-to-earth...and can we say, breathtaking? Each time he acted out escaping from the bondage tapes, you could hear the Cosmo team subtly squealing in delight. We couldn’t help it.
When Ejay Falcon got to the set, he humbly squirmed his way into the busy studio and quietly found his place to work on his interviews and have his makeup done. There were no egos, no drama, no airs. But, when the camera started clicking, Ejay worked the room and left us all breathless. Afterwards, we congratulated him for a great shoot, and he unassumingly asked, “Okey ba?” We’re pretty sure this humble hunk will go places.
This 19-year-old’s determination shocked us. Aljur Abrenica trained hard for his Cosmo shoot and we’ve got the shots to prove it. He was all pro when we asked him to pose a la Fight Club. And, each pose and shot was so intense, we found ourselves holding our breath as he did his kicks and jabs. Needless to say, Aljur left us impressed and revved-up—among other things. We can’t wait to see how bright Aljur’s star will shine in this industry.
From crushable cutie to the ultimate lust-worthy hunk, Gerald Anderson proves that he is waaay H-O-T—literally and figuratively! We found it adorable that Gerald was sooo excited for his Cosmo shoot. In fact, at the studio, you could almost feel his giddiness as we were readying the set and getting him groomed-up for his cover pictorial. As we clicked to capture his fiery hotness, we were blown away by his sexy squint and powerful stance. The PBB alumnus has gone a long way. After the shoot, Gerald jokingly said, “Finally, p’wede na kumain.” His light-heartedness turned us on even more.
