Just a couple of hours before her Rebel Heart Tour performance, Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles called on the public to avoid attending Madonna’s concert scheduled tonight at the SM Mall Of Asia Arena.
Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles said Madonna was not a good example to the youth due to her suggestive lifestyle where she embodies the persona of a material girl, the Inquirer reported.
“Why is Catholic Philippines the favorite venue for blasphemy against God and the Holy Mother?” Arguelles said.
“It’s not even her real name. She is just using [her stage name] to taunt Mother Mary,” he added.
Arguelles also disapproved of Madonna’s fashion sense which he described as "vulgar."
He is not alone with his sentiments after one of his Singaporean counterparts also urged the Singaporean youth to boycott the same concert scheduled on February 28.
Archbishop William Goh said in a statement that it was their moral obligation not to support those who insult religions with their performances.
Goh was referring to the Holy Water segment in the concert where racy-dressed women posing as nuns performed pole dancing.
The Philippines is the 70th stop of Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour on February 24 and 25.
