A nurse working at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City was found dead inside the dormitory room she was renting in New Manila over the weekend.
The victim was identified as 23-year-old September Paz who sustained 19 stab wounds all over her body, ABS-CBN reported.
Initial reports stated that a group of men caught on CCTV near the area the night before might have been involved in the crime.
Paz’s roommate for her part said she left their room at around 8 p.m. that night for her nightshift work.
But the suspect who was identified as 22-year-old Jeffrey Guarin already surrendered to authorities as of Tuesday, the Inquirer reported.
Guarin, a neighbor of the victim, admitted to the crime and claimed that he only intended to steal from the victim so he could buy more alcoholic drinks.
He said he was able to break into the victim’s room by dismantling the jalousie window but Paz woke up while he was looking for money to steal which resulted in the crime.
The suspect, who is also among the drug suspects in their barangay, is currently detained while authorities prepare to file robbery and homicide charges against him.
