The Long Plot, Sans Spoilers

Stella (Bela Padilla) is your quintessential cool girl. She sings in a band, has an easy way about her, and can charm just about anyone. One of the people she charms is Fidel (JC Santos) who is the opposite of cool. He is shy and awkward, and he stutters.

Stella develops a fondness for Fidel, and soon they are inseparable. Fidel falls for Stella, but can't seem to actually blurt it out. So, he uses poetry to express how he feels.

What I Think:

Out of all the films lined up for the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, I was most excited about this one. I had seen the trailer and it looked like a lighthearted love story—the perfect first film to watch for this festival.

It begins with the two lead characters meeting for the first time at the start of their college life. There's an innocence and wonder about how their friendship begins.

Bela Padilla was refreshing as Stella. She effectively brought to life the many nuances of Stella's character. I found myself loving her, getting confused by her, coming close to hating her, but in the end, I just had to embrace Stella as she was.

JC Santos was a revelation as Fidel. He, too, was effective in showing the progression of Fidel's character. You will see him bloom from being a shy, awkward guy to someone more confident. Bonus: You will also hear JC sing in this movie!

The film has the ability to move your heart if you will allow it. It shows how powerful love, kindness, friendship, and acceptance can be in someone's life.

What my friend thinks:

I didn't expect to be so touched by this movie. I found myself in tears at some points in the story. It was funny and also heartbreaking at times. Definitely a good movie to watch to cap a stressful work week! - Rizza

I would recommend it to:

Anyone who's ever experienced unrequited love, and anyone who wants to watch a quality Pinoy film during the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.
