Jennifer Lopez is set star in a Home Box Office (HBO) film about the life of notorious Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco.
Blanco was tagged as the most powerful female drug lord in America. In fact, she was nicknamed "The Cocaine Godmother." She ran the American drug cartel in the '70s and '80s.
A People magazine feature revealed that "Blanco was finally deported back to Colombia in 2004 after serving nearly 20 years behind bars in the US." In 2012, Blanco was shot dead right outside a butcher shop in Medellín, Colombia by an assassin on a motorcycle. She was 69.
In a press statement, J. Lo explained, "I've been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years. The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the perfect fit for finally bringing Griselda’s story to life."
Lopez will co-produce the film through her company, Nuyorican Productions, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Actor Alex Pettyfer will serve as one of the co-executive producers of the film.
