Miss Philippines Gwendoline Ruais finished First Runner-Up in this year's Miss World competition in London last Sunday. She spoke of her reasons for joining the pageant, saying, "When you join Miss World Philippines, you represent your country. You're an ambassador. You can help others in the causes you believe in."

  • Homegrown talent has been gaining more and more attention lately, as proven by the success of the film Pinoy Sunday, which opened the second Taiwan Film Festival at Shangri-La Plaza last month and recently won Best Picture at a Romania film fest. The film exemplifies Asian pride, as it was shot on location in Taipei by a Malaysian director with a Filipino cast: Epy Quizon, Bayani Agbayani, Alessandra de Rossi, and Meryll Soriano.

  • In other football news, you girls have a chance to see the hottest football player in the flesh! David Beckham's team, the LA Galaxy, is coming to Manila in December to play against the Philippine Azkals as part of a promotional tour around Asia and Australia. Becks vs. the Younghusbands? Our hearts are torn!

  • Baby, baby, baby, oh no! Justin Bieber is in the middle of a swirling controversy involving a 20-year-old woman who claims he is the father of her three-month-old. Justin's camp says there's no truth whatsoever to the accusations, and he's willing to take a paternity test to prove it. Oh, the harsh life of a teen idol!
