The State of the Nation Address (SONA) is the political equivalent of New Year's Eve—it gives people the feeling of starting on a clean slate. This year, the theme for the SONA is "a comfortable life for all." In line with this, President Rodrigo Duterte delivered a very interesting speech.

"It's about time for President Duterte to sound conciliatory, but not to those who destroy our country." —Sen. Grace Poe, as quoted by ABS-CBN News reporter Sherrie Ann Torres

"Mape-fake news na naman ang ating mga kababayan." —Sen. Risa Hontiveros in a dzMM interview

"I'm very honored to be attending the SONA. I want to hear, of course, great news from the President because I believe he's been working a lot for the countryand the environment, of course." —Miss Earth 2016 Katherine Espin in an interview with ABS-CBN News correspondent Mario Dumaual

—Words embroidered on the outfits of Gabriela Reps. Emmi de Jesus and Arlene Brosas, as pointed out by ABS-CBN News correspondent Miguel Dumaual

"I love this song, my all time favorite OPM. It's a perfect reminder to live and embrace each day as it comes... I was glued to the #sona2017. These are the President's points I agreed with 100%. I have a life principle and that is to focus on positivity. And the success of the President and the government benefits all of us Filipinos. If you want prosperity then work hard, but remain vigilant in defending democracy." Kris Aquino's caption for an Instagram video which featured the song, "Kanlungan."
