Cosmo Online Hunk Markus Wiedenmann: Chilled-Out Charmer
Photo: Monica Barretto
The half-Thai, half-German supermodel has been all over the world on modeling stints, so we’re mighty lucky he dropped by our humble part of the globe to regale us Cosmo girls with his good looks and sharp wit. Mind you, this is one dude who breaks the “dumb model” stereotype—he graduated with a degree in Medicine and Psychology from the University of Berlin and is currently taking his Masters degree online.
Get to know this brainy model as he talks about his no-fail flirting tricks, and find out how you can flirt your way into his heart. While you’re at it, click on the gallery to see the Eurasian hunk get languorously laid-back at home.
Since it’s summertime, expect this hunk to shed some clothing along the way, so keep coming back to Cosmo.ph to see him take it off!
Do you prefer going out or staying in?
Between going out and staying home, it depends on the time. I’m actually a very home-oriented person. I like dinner parties at home with the people I’m close to, people who get me, people who matter. Because when you go to work and you have many, many things going on, it’s really hard to find quality time for the people that matter to you. [But] I do like the idea of dancing, going out, getting dressed up, trying to look as slick as you can, and just having fun.
Are you a drinker?
Yes, I can drink (laughs).
How many drinks can you down in one night?
It depends on how much food I have prior to that. If I didn’t eat much, I’m pretty much gone by the second glass (laughs).
Have you ever picked up a girl at a bar or club?
Yes. That’s when the drinks kind of exceed already. That’s when I go a little bit out of my way and not home. ‘Cause I don’t want to go home (laughs).
How would you describe your flirting strategy?
Anything and everything that you can get. You do what it takes (laughs).
Can you expound?
I guess it goes case to case, it depends on the person, it depends each time. Usually I would run around and try every single thing that would work. Anything. Getting drinks, trying to notice what drinks they like; if they smoke, which cigarettes they like; what type of music they move to; how to get closer. But you should always try to impress their friends first, because that’s how you get to them (laughs).
What’s your no-fail flirt tactic?
Usually, my way is sort of like, I try to get to know the most out of it first, then I analyze the information that I have. I’m a bit sneaky (laughs). I guess the one thing that never really failed, that mostly succeeded, is asking them out to a very nice dinner in a way that is very casually asked, in an uninvasive way.
How would you ask?
Just look at their mood first. Or just make them feel good first so they won’t say no. Come up with something that I think they like, then stop by and just ask them to dinner.
What do you think of girls who make the first move?
I like that. It gives you a break from time to time (laughs). Because nowadays a lot of women are actually as powerful as men. So I think to restrict that the man has to make the first move all the time, it would be kind of outdated sometime soon in the future, I don’t know how long from now. But there’s always going to be this ego thing. When [girls] make the first move, there’s got to be some way they would do it to you [that doesn’t overstep you being the man]. If they find the right way, I think it’s good.
If a girl who’s totally not your type comes up to you, how do you handle it?
I smile. I always smile when it gets to that point.
What do you do if she persists?
I just try to be her friend in a very boyish way. I try to behave very youngish, I try to be nothing that someone would like, and they eventually just go away.
Can you remember a time that a girl came up to you and the way she approached you was just spot-on? How did she do it?
Yes. It’s not very confronting, but at the same time it’s not very close. There’s always this little door where you can initiate another conversation that goes on and on and on. If you can make me laugh naturally in one dinner meal, or [when we’re] out somewhere doing anything that’s not too fancy, and you make me laugh three times within an hour, you pretty much [win me over].
