We’re at that age when we should be thinking about long-term ways to grow our money instead of just occasionally adding to our savings accounts. Without going into too much detail, we asked seven millennials about their current investments, to see what an investment is to them.

“I joined a professionally-managed investment scheme run by an asset management company that invests their money in stocks, bonds, and other securities. I started my monthly deposits in 2014 and I will finish by 2019—hopefully with more money! ” –Lara, 28

“I’ve invested in small amounts in some large stocks—like Apple and Tesla. So far, they’ve worked really well, but I’m now trying to look for companies that are looking ahead in artificial intelligence and clean technologies. It’s a long-term investment but totally worth it, in my opinion. ” –Iris, 24

“I think my MA education abroad is my biggest investment. I see my friends buying cars and condos and starting families, and sometimes I ask myself if I should have invested in those instead of myself, but I always think that I’ll get there eventually. Studying abroad was the dream since I was little, so being able to do that now is fulfilling. And I know I wouldn’t be able to do this anymore when I get older. The cars and the condos will always be there. This one can’t wait.” –Sandra, 27

“Right now, I just have my insurance plan. It’s the variable insurance type so instead of a normal plan, there’s also the investment component. If I get enough returns, I can withdraw the money for things like my future kid’s tuition—yes I think about that stuff now—or maybe my retirement. Other than that, we—my fiancé and I—are thinking of investing in a property in Manila. And possibly even a car! ” –Grace, 25

“I tried investing right out of college, but I didn’t understand it at all so I pulled it out after a year ‘cause it didn't really gain or lose. But now, I’m trying to be more financially aware. Six months ago, I invested in mutual funds, and I also bought life insurance. Do I understand everything? Not really. But I’m learning and that’s a start.” –Amy, 26
