Geographically, the Philippines is a prime spot for people who are obsessed with the water—there’s no shortage of gorgeous beaches. If you’re finally ready to dip your toes in the water, why not try surfing? Not only will you acquire a new skill, you’ll also get a full-body workout and a sun-kissed glow. Head to any of these beaches if you’re thinking of riding the waves:
1. La Union
A lot of beginner surfers—which includes Jessy Mendiola, btw—head to La Union for lessons with Luke Landrigan, who owns and runs San Juan Surf Resort.
Just a couple of hours from Manila, Baler is another favorite surfing destination. Though most people hang out at Sabang Beach, you should also visit Cemento, Charlie’s Point, and Lily’s Point.
Known as the “Surfing Capital of the Philippines,” Siargao Island is in Surigao del Norte. Make sure you don’t skip General Luna aka “Cloud 9.” The best months to visit are from August to November!
Zambales is only a three-hour drive from the city, and San Antonio is the area’s most popular surf spot. And if you’re there for a long weekend, we urge you to explore San Narciso and San Felipe as well.
Found in Ilocos Norte, Pagudpud isn’t as crowded as the first four places on this list, which might be a redeeming factor for those who want a little more privacy. A must-visit in the area is Blue Lagoon, so make a mental note.
