After 500 Hints, He Still Doesn't Get It

Weeks passed and Logan and I began to see each other more often. Too often and too long, I think, that I began to feel that I might be a bad influence on him. If we were not chatting (during my work hours, bad, bad, bad!), we were hanging out at the mall (during his work hours, bad, bad, bad!). It almost looked like we didn't have work at all.

Despite the long hours we spent chatting, SMS-ing, and hanging out, I really wasn't sure if he was courting me. At one particular moment, I somehow managed to find a little appreciation for the guys who still think it's okay to ask the lamest question in the entire history of Filipino dating: "Can I court you?" Eww.

Well, at least that way, you get a clear idea whether the guy wants something beyond friendship and companionship. Let's face it, some guys are just plain friendly or worse, dense.

So for three weeks straight, Logan and I were officially "seeing" each other. Literally. We'd see each other after work and during weekends, without any clear idea if we were dating or simply hanging out.

On my side of the single court, I knew from the start that I liked him. Like I said, that's one thing about Logan: it's so easy to like him. He's like the easy-go-lucky, anti-jock, 'di-mo-alam-kung-emo, total jackass character in every American teen movie. Like the "other Tucker" in the movie John Tucker Must Die.

It was either he wanted to keep me guessing or he was just getting to know me better before getting serious. But my impatience was starting to boil over, and during one Y!IM conversation, his being dense made me snap.

That time last year, 500 Days of Summer was playing in all cinemas in mega Manila. Since advertising still has a way of making me want to get hold of things in a jiffy, I was telling Logan that this film could be the next My Sassy Girl (Korean version, of course). I gave Logan a couple of links to the film's official website and fan pages and YouTube links. After 500 hints about 500 Days of Summer, Logan still didn't get that I wanted to see the movie with him. I didn't know if my single-girl moves were rusting after two years of being single and unavailable or if Logan just didn't want to see the damn movie. Or maybe he was just being dense.

My impatience won and I logged out of Y!IM after his 5th "Yeah, the movie looks good" comment. Minutes later, he sent me a text message asking why I logged out all of a sudden. Something snapped.

Logan told me he got the idea but he didn't know how to ask me so he kept putting it off. "I guess I can be a dumbass sometimes," he said over the phone when he called. "Sorry, okay? I want to watch it with you siyempre."

I admired his honesty. Besides, it's not everyday that an alpha male admits to a girl that he can be a dumbass sometimes. But I was still mad so I made a deal with him:

"If you really like me," I started boldly. "Meet me at exactly 7 o'clock tomorrow night in front of The Podium with two tickets to 500 Days of Summer and a single red rose. Seven sharp, not a minute after. If you're not there at exactly 7 o'clock, you won't see me again. And don't text me until tomorrow."

Of course, he still sent me a good night message saying that he'd be there tomorrow. I knew that I went overboard with my demands but a girl needs answers, you know? I was sure that I scared him off already but I think that's something Logan should know about me: that like Carrie Bradshaw, I can be a bit too bitchy at times.

  2. Hay, so true, before i hate guys who ask if they can make ligaw, but when this guy i was dating and really like wasn't making any solid moves, i changed sides.. argh.. it's better na clear kesa you're getting invested, wala naman palang pupuntahan... lol.
