Ana's Insecurities Part 1

BB041110M.jpgSix months into their relationship, Ana's insecurities finally showed. And since I was Sam's closest female friend, she went to me with her weight issues. My evil brain told me: "She's making you her BFF, para magkaroon ka ng guilty feelings. Kasi kapag friends na kayo, hindi mo na magagawang agawin si Sam sa kanya."

Wait lang. Who the hell said I'd steal Sam from her? Oh wait, I forgot that was my evil brain talking.

Anyway, that's how I saw it actually. Ana was using the "friends" tactic to get closer to me. As they say, keep your friends close, your enemies closer, and your boyfriend's hot (walang kokontra) housemate closest. Somehow, I understood her.

Franco was partly to blame for Ana's insecurities. Her uncertainties shot up when Franco invited Sam to a men's magazine's anniversary party because the former needed a wingman. Of course, visions of half-naked women in skimpy bikinis and leather pumps danced around Ana's big head and gave her sleepless nights. The three of us were supposed to go. I was so excited that I asked Jai to help me put together the "I am goddamn hot!" look two hours before the event, only to find out that Ana didn't allow Sam to go. Nino went wild and showed up at the office, panting like a horse, 30 minutes after we called him with news of an extra ticket.

Days after that, Ana went to me with her weight woes. My friends had a field day with her weight problem, though.

Nino: Belo.

Aki: Running helps. Tell her to run...the length of EDSA.

Chi: Slimming tea? Pills? Liposuction?

Franco:
'Wag siyang kumain for half a year.

Jai:
Treat her to Sbarro para mas lalong lumapad!

Charlie:
She's beyond repair.

That was part one. I told her that I don't believe in all the diet crap. Rather, I eat anything I want, but in moderation.

"Do you know why French women don't get fat?" I asked her once when she caught me in Sam's kitchen again. "Because they savor their food. I mean, come on, they're living in the carbs capital of the world. They eat pasta, pastries, cheese, chocolate, and wine, right? But they don't get fat. Well, that's because they eat in moderation and they have the discipline to stop when they are full."

"So that's your diet regimen?" Ana asked.

"Well, it's more like a state of mind," I answered. "And well, I try to walk every chance I get."

"Sam told me you used to figure skate."

"Yeah, eons ago," I said. "I don't have time to ice skate anymore so I just try to keep active, kahit walking lang. Or try mo mag-gym after work."

And Ana did join the gym bandwagon...for a week. And then she quit.
