But it was a nightmare! All Archer talked about was R&B songs, modeling, Ne-Yo, shallow and highly predictable Hollywood movies, gym routines, his abs, and his bedroom skills. Mas madaldal pa siya sa akin that I came THIS CLOSE to labeling all DLSU boys conyotic--all because Archer wouldn't, couldn't shut up.

He was one those guys who liked wearing see-through-ba-'yan-o-nasobrahan-lang-sa-laba metrosexual shirts, puruntong-length checkered shorts that I hated, I-don't-care-kung-mahal-'yan-tsinelas-pa-rin-'yan expensive flip-flops, and super gay gray messenger hats.

Eww.

But he was gorgeous and lovely to look at. He played a mean guitar and his voice was not bad at all. Siyempre, former artista. I guess all that mandatory sing-and-dance crap he did on noontime shows stuck with him. Tingin yata niya pinilakang tabing pa rin ang real life.

But he was gorgeous and he was into cars! Archer was a drag racer and he drove this pimped out 1995 Honda Civic ESI in Pepsi Blue. He'd participated in a number of drag racing tournaments like the Glade Sport Lateral Drift Championship at Eastwood City. So you can just imagine how my knees would turn into goo at the sight of this former celebrity in his full drag racer suit with matching headgear as he sped away at the race track. I was in la-la-la land.

When Archer won second place in the drag racing tournament at McKinley Hill, we officially became a couple. What level-headed, super-kilig, laglag-panty, drag racing super fan would have enough brain cells left to say "no" to a gorgeous specimen walking away from his race car while removing his helmet and gloves, as mere mortal women gawked in awe? It was commercial-worthy/slow-motion goodness. I melted. Like goo.

I was so giddy that all my friends (including Nino, Kit, and Carl) started complaining about how I'd been flooding my Multiply page with our photos. They insisted on meeting this "drag racing guy." My best friends Gail and Nicia were the first to meet him and, unfortunately, Archer didn't meet their very high standards of what made a "good boyfriend," saying that he looked like a player. I got the same negative feedback from my friends at the ad agency, particularly Chi, who had an inkling that Archer was bad news.

"He's beautiful, Veronica," Chi said. "But he has no job. How is he able to afford all his drag racing expenses? It's not like basketball or DOTA, 'no."

"His family has money," I answered.

"I can't believe you!" Franco started. "Akala ko ba ayaw mo sa lalaki na tae ang grammar? Your pretty boy can't even finish a sentence in straight English tapos patay na patay ka diyan."

"I can make exceptions," I replied stubbornly.

"V, Archer can't shut up about Ne-Yo," Aki inquired. "Naka-drugs ka ba?"

"Art naman 'yun a, music 'di ba?" I fired back.

"E baka naman kasi he rocks Veronica's world," Chi piped in sheepishly.

"Oo nga, anong magnitude ba?" Franco asked.

I didn't answer. The sex was bad. Archer was more on the, err, small department, but I didn't have the heart or the guts to comment on that. Not with all his "So, what do you think, baby? Nag-e-enjoy ka ba sa BIG treat? Masarap ba ang SUPER SIZE meal? Come on! What's my name, baby, what's my name?!"

Mini-Me, I thought. At oo, gusto ko ng Big Mac, pwede bang kumain na lang tayo sa McDonald's?

In my mind, I was wondering whether it was a trick or treat thing he hadn't outgrown, or maybe he had just seen too many comedy flicks in the past years. So I just looked at his angelic face while he rocked his own world.

But Archer was gorgeous. He was good for my ego. And during that period when I felt like Sam and Ana slapped me in the face a gazillion times, I needed an ego-booster, an outlet, a pretty boy, a rockin' good time.

I was human.

I was depressed.

I was a wreck.
