(Back To The Present) Living With Sam Rule #1: Always Wear A Bra

The first thing I learned when living with the opposite sex (who isn’t your blood relative or romantic partner) under one roof is this: you should always wear a bra. Moreover, you can’t run around in your birthday suit.

On my first morning at the condo, I woke up to the smell of bacon and eggs. So I jumped out of bed and went straight to the kitchen where I ran into Nino who was cutting some French bread that he brought from the restaurant. At this point, Sam threw a damp hand towel to my chest and ordered me back to my room to change.

I returned to the kitchenette (with a bra underneath my trusty old shirt this time), poured myself a cup of coffee, and sat at the counter to wait for my breakfast. Nino had this evil smirk plastered across his face throughout breakfast, and just before he left, he flashed me a toothy smile just before Sam kicked him out of the condo. He laughed all the way to the elevators, just loud enough to wake everyone up on our floor.

My first night at the condo was stressful. After a gourmet dinner of lemon chicken and pandan rice, I spent the whole night arranging and re-arranging my things in my room. The biggest challenge was deciding where to stock my shoes. The balikbayan box had to go. I wanted those transparent shoe boxes they sell at Tiendesitas so I can just stack them up against the wall. At the last minute, I decided against it.

After kicking Nino out, we sipped our second cups of coffee at the balcony as we watched the Ateneo campus come to life on that lazy Saturday morning.
