One of my Cosmo assignments involved interviewing random guys about a particular topic. I asked Charlie to go with me on my first gig, thinking that her stint in Mindanao would help me. Unfortunately—and quite surprisingly—Charlie got tongue-tied at the sight of the beautiful strangers we were aiming for. And to think she was used to facing men with big guns! No pun intended. Peace, Charlie.

It's true: Chasing guys isn't for the faint of heart. It really takes an insurmountable amount of guts, a pack of breath mints, and super red lipstick (and maybe a shot of vodka or a good whack in the head) to walk over to a random dude and ask him to answer a very simple Cosmo question. Most guys didn't believe that I was doing this for Cosmo, so I walked away from them. Some were more than willing to entertain us, while some were just plain pa-importante. So stuck-up, I thought.

That night, I got lucky when I spotted a group of good-looking guys who were smoking near the coffee shop where I treated a half-dazed Charlie to a piping hot latte, in the hope that it would thaw her. These guys answered my questions, and after the interview, I learned that they—Paoti, Pong, and Ivin—all worked at a computer company in Ortigas. Uy, malapit lang sa office ko, I thought and made a mental note to set Ivin up with Lily one of these days.

It was almost ten o'clock when we got enough men to answer our question. The guys wanted us to wait for their two friends who went to park their cars. "Mga gwapings 'yon," Paoti, the most macho of the three guys, said.

But I was in a hurry and I politely declined. Months later, the tech dudes were also interviewed by Chi for a Valentine's Day segment in Cosmopolitan Magazine. Later still, I found out that Logan was one of the two friends they wanted me to wait for that night. I would have met Logan two months earlier if we waited for them that fateful night. But it turned out that fate had something better in mind.

When I first started to write Bedroom Blog by Veronica, it was somehow painful to recall and write about Matt all over again, but I figured that a lot of people could relate to the universal concept of unrequited love. I wanted to slap myself for being such a martyr back then. It was even more depressing to write about my late best friend Sam, especially since no one ever expected our story to end that way.

Looking back, I never thought that the blog would be read and understood by so many people. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect it to be so popular that even my immediate supervisor called me to her office one day and asked if I was "Veronica." I came clean and she was ecstatic. She even wanted me to write a similar blog for the agency. I said I couldn't handle the extra work.

Writing Bedroom Blog by Veronica became my therapy. I devoted so much time writing it that soon, I started to learn how to ignore the gossip that never ceased even if I kept my mouth shut for months. I was also adamant to prove that I could handle both my agency workload and my sidelines. I had less time to worry about what people thought of me.

Somehow, it made me stronger.

And soon, I began to see gossip in a different light.
