"So," Logan fidgeted in his chair and faced me. "Prom queen, huh?"

"Please," I elbowed him. "I'm not particularly fond of that memory."

"But it's like a dream come true for most girls, right?" he asked, obviously confused. "I should know. My sister cried on her prom night. She was this close to winning the crown. She went home looking like a raccoon in a sequined dress."

"Well, I guess I'm not like most girls."

"Seriously, what are you, a guy?"

We laughed. We were still at the high school reunion but we were lost in our own world. My friends were probably doing the same thing I used to do whenever a couple got like this. I used to pout and hiss "Ano ba 'yan, hello, may sarili na naman silang mundo" to the one seated next to me. But that night, I didn't care. Despite the crowded tables and loud music, the stars looked particularly beautiful that night. Logan and I were sipping beer while looking up at the stars.

"How about you?" I asked before I took a sip of beer. "What was your prom night like?"

"I ditched it."

"What? Bakit?"

"Well, junior prom, my buddies and I got suspended that whole week."

"Bad trip naman," I said. "What did you guys do?"

"Are you familiar with D-X?" Logan asked.

"The wrestling thing?"

"Yeah, it was quite popular back then," he continued. "My friends and I were crazy about it. So one time, my best bud Bim started this D-X mania. You know, kapag may naglalakad na lower batch sa corridor, hahatakin namin sa empty classroom tapos bubugbugin namin."

"Seryoso?"

"Yeah," Logan answered and chuckled at the memory. "Pero siyempre hindi naman talaga malakas 'yung mga suntok. Kukuyugin lang namin. E one time, nahuli kami ng principal. Ayun, buong batch namin pinagalitan during the flag ceremony and since barkada namin 'yung nagpasimuno, we were suspended for a whole week, which happened to be on the week of the prom. By the way, anak ng principal 'yung best friend ko."

"Wicked!" I nudged him.

"You tell me!" Logan nudged me back. "Astig, 'di ba?"

"How about senior prom?"

"Went with my cousin's friend. Awkward teenage ritual."

Hours went by and everyone was getting drunk, especially Ken, who was downing his fifth bottle next to a fuming and sober Nicia. Gail was leaning sideways toward Dustin as well. After three bottles of beer and two servings of sisig, my eyelids were starting to feel heavy, like they always do when I get tipsy. Logan probably had five bottles already, but based on his conversations with my guy classmates, he seemed sober enough to drive.

I hardly noticed that I was leaning on his shoulder already; his right arm was steadying me as he talked to the guys. I only realized it when I uploaded the photos on Facebook two days later. There it was, a slightly blurred photo of sober Logan and tipsy Veronica, taken by Mark himself.

The party ended around 3 o'clock in the morning. With blurred vision and slurred speech, I said goodbye to my classmates and made promises to set another inuman soon. Logan asked if I wanted to go home already, but I wasn't ready to go home reeking of beer. And besides, the night was so beautiful. So I asked Logan if we could drive around for a while.

There was no hidden agenda there. Logan drove all the way to Antipolo and in one of the over-looking spots there, he ordered a cup of coffee for me and another bottle of beer for him. I still felt unsteady. He held my hand as we walked to one of the nipa huts that offered a great view of the city. My nerves were frazzled because of the caffeine, so I talked and talked about the events that happened earlier and asked what he thought of my friends. When the adrenaline rush simmered down, I sat closer to him and propped my feet up on the table. Logan did the same.

In my semi-tipsiness, I could feel his heart racing.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Yep, why?"

"Your heart is beating wildly."

"I get like this when I get close to a girl."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah," he said. "I guess I'm kind of lame that way."

"Nah, I think you're a jackass."

"Well, I think you are, too."

"Cool."

That was the last thing I said before we both fell asleep inside the nipa hut overlooking Metro Manila. We woke up at past 6 o'clock in the morning and drove back to Quezon City. He dropped me off in front of my house.

He didn't kiss me. At all.

So does Logan like me? I kept thinking. Kahit beso-beso wala e!

I decided that I would obsess over it some other time. That morning, all I wanted to do was sleep the entire day away.
