Flashback: Just Like High School Musical

Nothing sings High School Musical better than my own high school love story. This is, seriously, one of the stories I have tried so hard to forget all these years. I’m not proud of it. To put it bluntly, I’m ashamed of it. In fact, I live my life as if it never happened. But, you can never really do that, can you? To proceed with the present, we have to make peace with our past. So, let me tell you the story of what my high school years and romance were like. We all have embarrassingly nubile high school episodes of our own; here’s mine.Kung sino'ng tamaan, 'wag maaapektuhan. After all, late 1990s pa 'to no! That is, unless hindi ka pa rin nakaka-get over sa'kin. Charing! Okay, seriously now…
Flashback: In one episode in Season 1, Veronica Mars said that those people who say that high school is the best part of their lives are usually the ones who are on the yearbook committee. Or maybe even those who are in pep squad and varsity teams and the popular crowd. True, true. Honestly, I wouldn’t know otherwise because, well, I was in the yearbook committee, pep squad, and varsity (for chess, that is. I was, and still is, a nerd). Not to mention the student council, leadership circle, and probably just about anything the small Christian school can push me into including. Yes, I'm part of the the stereotypical “popular crowd.”
And yes, I come from a small Christian school inside our village. I studied there from kindergarten to senior year in high school, and I had sundo (shuttle service) until a suitor taught me how to take a good seven-minute tricycle ride from the school to our house. Yes, I was that tatanga-tanga (as Logan would tease me these days) way back. But, who could blame me? In the morning, my Dad would drive us three kids to school. In the afternoon, our yaya would bring us lunch. Every now and then, my friends and I would be brought to the nearest mall for snacks, but not without a chaperone (usually, my yaya). Not that she’s Dorota…but close.
Yes, I was a spoiled brat. I’m sorry if you think this story is starting to sound annoying or feeling or super annoying and super feeling, but hey, I’m sure that some of you out there have your share of spoiled high school brats’ stories. As I have mentioned earlier, I’m not particularly proud of this stage in my life (as others would probably contest, but more on that later). I’m ashamed of it because I was too spoiled and nakakainis when I was a teenager. I was just like everyone else and by that I mean I was vulnerable. Like everyone else, I also had a high school boy who made my heart skip, surge, break, and hope in that eye-rollin’ High School Musical sort of way.
