Flirting With Domestication

Our first stop was Kayangan Lake, which is around 30 minutes from the port area. After paying an expensive entrance fee of P200 per head, we began the 15-minute steep trek toward the picturesque lake. Logan was behind me. He kept pushing my butt up the trail. When we reached Kayangan Lake, all the difficulty was worth it.
I had never seen waters so clear before. Okay, maybe except for the waters of that virgin beach in Pangasinan where I almost drowned, but Kayangan Lake was really breathtaking. There's a narrow wooden foot bridge that snakes along the lake's edge, with a few wooden benches where you can stash your things, hoping they won't slip through the cracks and fall into the waters.
We stripped to our bikinis and dove in. The water was warm and inviting. The four of us swam like fish joint at the hips (if fish have hips, whatever) while our "beach boy" (the boat man) took our photos with Arya's camera.
Our next stop was the Twin Lagoons, where the entrance fee is just P20 per head. There's a diving area between the two rock formations where teenagers kept jumping and yelling. We swam through a small opening underneath the two massive rock formations to reach the secluded area where the water was deep and blue and beautiful. We were surrounded by mountains, so we could hear what the other swimmers were talking about.
A group of 40-something women were talking about their husbands' bout with drinking. Their kids were talking about some teenage show on GMA-7 we knew nothing about. Arya and Mel were talking about some wedding details, while I grilled Logan about his comments earlier at the public market.
"I don't like it," I said.
"But, babe," he started like a kid pleading not to be spanked. "That's really a woman's job. You know, buying stuff at the market, cooking, etc."
"But I'm not like most girls," I fired back. "I don't want to end up doing those things over and over. Paminsan-minsan oo, pero hindi lagi. I don't want to be domesticated."
"But, you are."
"I'm not!"
"But, you just said you like baking and tidying up your room and, come on, you enjoy grocery shopping, 'di ba?"
I thought about it and realized I had been toying with the idea of pure domestication for how many months now, and even if I do enjoy the occasional baking and grocery shopping, I don't want to end up doing just those things.
I don't like what I'm becoming. I feel so tamed.
Arya and Mel swam toward us and said we needed to get to Banul Beach for lunch. The four of us swam back to the boat and we sailed away with my thoughts.
