The air smells different here. It smells like freedom.
"We're still in Hong Kong," he said as we took a sharp right turn at the corner of Haiphong and Nathan Roads, past the intriguingly busy juice stand that sold incredibly addicting Mango Sago concoctions at HK$7 each.
"We're still in Hong Kong," I echoed as we left the now familiar road where our hotel was, just beside Kowloon Park.
Last night was amazing, I thought. Okay, to be more exact, yesterday afternoon (at approximately 3-3:20PM, Hong Kong time) was amazing. Not only were we able to fit in the standard HK-style guest room, not only was I able to not complain about how freaking small everything was (my luggage, my hand bag, the bed, the bathroom, the door, the floor area...everything was freaking small), not only were we able to give each other a proper "Welcome to HK" gesture (that was the first thing we did, what do you expect?), but we were also able to cover so much ground on our first day in Hong Kong. Good job, Google Earth!
To say that we "planned" our Hong Kong vacation is an understatement. Right after Logan booked our flights, he spent the next few months Google Earth-ing every single place we'd visit. I have to give him all the credit. My God, he even went as far as learning a few Cantonese phrases, when all I had to do was hand him the cash from my end and figure out how I would fit everything I needed for a five-day vacation in a single hand-carry luggage.
"How do you expect me to do that?!" I complained for two days after he booked the flights and every other day 'til we were ready to fly. "Five days?! One single hand-carry luggage! Paano ko gagawin 'yun?!"
"Travel light, honey," he said calmly. "You don't need the excess baggage."
Touche.
So, I don't know how I managed to pack everything I needed in my sister's leather hand-carry luggage, which is the size of a small toy chest. Everything in Hong Kong seems so small, even the bags you carry when you visit.
Yet, despite how small everything looks--the restaurants, the boutiques, the coffee shops, the guest houses--the sights and sounds of this lively city country appear larger than life: like the super fasyon young kids on the streets, the multi-racial lovers roaming the city, the Brits enjoying happy hour at SoHo district, the Koreans (I just assume they were Koreans, not really sure) sashaying through the streets like they're in some Koreanovela flick, and even vacationing couples like us who look like we live here. We blend in because I look slightly Chinese and Logan looks, uh, like one of those tall, dark, and some-of-them-are-handsome men hanging out in front of Mirador Mansion on Nathan Road.
To be continued...

1. Oh V, we also stayed in Tsim Sha Tsui. Mirador Mansion, we stayed there. I forgot actually, the name of the place we stayed in was Cosmic Guest House. I remembered we got lost in Haiphong and Nathan Roads at 10 in the evening. Hahaha.
