"Hanep, two days ang slumber party mo ah," Logan teased as we made our way to Quezon City.

"Yeah," I replied. "Bihira kasi mag tugma-tugma ang schedule namin."

"Can I ask you something?"

"'Wag Math."

Logan laughed. "Don't worry, no calculations involved."

"Fire away."

"Why didn't you text me the whole time you were drinking with your friends?"

I made a face and asked arrogantly, "Do I have to?"

"You called me gabi na and made subtle hints asking if I could drive girls home."

"Naiinis ka ba na naging driver ka namin tonight?"

"No," he said sounding earnest. "I have an officemate who lives in Antipolo and I went there first for a quick drink."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Do I have to?" he fired back. I didn't reply and we were silent for a while.

"Thing is, I don't like reporting my whereabouts to a guy," I said honestly. "I hate the constant beeping of my mobile phone and then reading messages telling me you ate already, you just left this and that, did this, did that. It's like reading someone's Twitter page. Frankly, it's irritating."

And just because I was on a roll, I continued, "You don't have to tell me what you do every single minute. All I need to know is that you're okay."

When I finally shut up, I feared that I might have gone too far with my rants. But what I just said was out of pure honesty. I really hate Twitter-like text messages sent every fifteen minutes. And if that's something Logan couldn't understand, bahala na.

"Para kang lalaki mag-isip," he said after a while. "I hate that, too, kaya 'di ako nagte-text lagi sa 'yo. Well, except na lang to say na papunta na ako or nandito na ako. Things like that."

"Really?"

"Yup," he replied. "I don't like it kapag tinatanong ako lagi kung ano'ng ginagawa ko or kumain na ba ako. I think those are irrelevant. Siyempre kakain ako 'no, ayoko nga magutom."

I chuckled for a while and then got serious again. "Logan, that's one thing you should know about me. There are times that I want to be left alone. I mean, I'm not the typical girl who fires Twitter-like messages about how my day is unfolding. Tamad akong mag-text sa totoo lang."

"I know," he said. "And honestly, that's one of the things I like about you."

I smiled.

"And about what you said about being left alone..."

"You know what I mean, Logan," I cut him to explain. "I don't want to be alone. I just want to be left alone sometimes because I enjoy solitude. There are times that I need to shut the world out so I can think and write."

"I get that," he said.

"Hindi mo pa nafi-feel 'yun with me but eventually you will," I added firmly, and once again, I worried about coming on too strong.

"Well, just promise me one thing whenever you need to be left alone to write."

"Okay, what is it?" I asked.

He looked at me and smiled, "Just hurry back to me."

It was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever heard him say and before he drove home, he asked me to go with him to Tagaytay the following weekend.
