"I really hope you get what you need, Veronica," he continued. "Sana, next time na magkita tayo for a chat, hindi ka na ganyan. Kasi sa totoo lang, nakakaawa ka na."

I couldn't look him in the eye after that. I couldn't even say anything. Maybe if it were someone else, I would have slapped him across the face. Maybe, if he said an outright lie, I would have thrown my coffee at him. But Aldrich was right.

Nakakaawa na nga ako.

Before we left, he handed me a small package. "I didn't forget," he said with a smile, and then he was gone.

I didn't open the package until I got home. It was a white coffee mug with "I Heart NY" printed in bold letters. I filled the mug with the colored pens I use for writing and positioned it neatly on the corner of my brown desk.

Some friends remember the smallest details. Years ago, when I first told Aldrich about Bedroom Blog by Veronica, he told me to check out Sex and the City.

"Wait lang," I said. "'Di ba pambabae 'yun? Bakit mo alam 'yun?"

"Yung girlfriend ko, addict doon," Aldrich said. "Gayahin mo si Carrie, i-detalye mo."

"Hindi ko alam 'yung Sex and the City," I had said. "Hahanapin ko pa sa torrent."

When I finally saw the series, I left Aldrich a message on Facebook and told him that I couldn't do what Carrie does, but I love New York and I love how it inspires people--even the ones who haven't really been there, like me.

"Kung sino'ng mauna sa 'tin makapunta doon, mag-uwi nung mug na may 'I Heart NY,' ha!" I said in my message.

And this afternoon, Aldrich did. As I stood there in my room staring longingly at my new NY mug, I felt another tingling sensation. Aside from Matt, Aldrich reminded me of another thing I once said I loved.
