On the day Logan and I decided to meet for the first time, the plan was simple: attend the event at SM North EDSA with Logan and Lily in the afternoon, then rush to my high school barkada's reunion inuman at Metrowalk with Logan as my plus one.

As I was nearing McDonald's in Katipunan Avenue, I was once again overwhelmed with fear that the guy I had been talking to online for the past month might not be the guy I would meet in less than five minutes, or worse, he might end up looking hideous.

I was starting to get cold feet but my boots were urging me to push through with it. Despite some guys having told me that they were somehow intimidated by the way I walked around in my boots, I decided to present myself to Logan as I really was—a boots-wearing, Starbucks-sipping, red-nailed, no-nonsense super girl. I thought of playing down the bitchy aura at first but I decided that if Logan couldn't handle the tiger that I was, then there was no point getting to know him better.

If you can't handle me, don't waste my time, I thought to myself as I stepped out of the cab and into the cool October air. I walked my way toward our meeting place and there he was, in a simple white shirt that said "Rockability," with fierce eyes that saw me for the first time and the devilish grin that I had no idea looked so hot in the flesh.

They were no his or hellos.

"Hey!" the guy whose jet-black curly hair could be best described as "It's alive!" said.

"Hey!" I said. "You're right. You really are easy to recognize."

"Must be the hair," he said sulkily.

"Well, yeah," I admitted. And just because I couldn't help it, I reached out to touch a few strands of his curly hair and then said, "I like it."

"What?"

"I said I like your hair," I repeated. "I think it's cool. Bagay sa pagka-jackass mo."

It would be months before I realized how much my comment meant to him. But on that particular day, when I first met Logan in Katipunan, I felt at ease. He was tall, dark, and handsome in the Richard Gomez-with-curls way. He was lean and muscular. I was scared that he might turn out to be big and muscled with an overdeveloped torso, wearing a very tight tee. He was simple. That day, Logan was wearing a simple white shirt, a pair of dark jeans, and black skate shoes. No piercings, no tattoos, no day-old stubble, and definitely no bling.

I was surprised at how these little details became such a big deal to me, considering that I dated guys who were Logan's exact opposite, like Archer. Could it be that I had opened my eyes already and realized what it was that I really wanted? I felt like I grew up and it made me feel good.

So there were no his or hellos. No "Wer n u, d2 n me" text messages and definitely no "Did you eat na ba?" moments. Just a couple of heys. After getting two cups of coffee to go, we made our way to his car and drove to SM North EDSA where we would meet Lily, whom I would later discover is Logan's first cousin.
