It was an ordinary Friday morning: the last working day before Christmas vacation. I had just finished wrapping presents the night before while ranting to Logan, who said I should have hired elves to help me out.

My parents and I were having breakfast before I went to work that morning. During that time, Logan was already a regular house visitor. Just the weekend before, we watched My Sassy Girl on DVD. I couldn’t believe that Logan hadn’t seen it. Isn’t that movie one of the best foreign films of all time? Lily had probably seen it a dozen times before she told me about it back in freshman year. Nevertheless, I managed to find the DVD that Dee gave me two Christmases ago, and we spent the entire afternoon watching it.

You see, that morning was just as ordinary as any other, but it was the perfect opportunity to ask my parents what they thought of Logan. My folks have always been very lenient with me. When I was in high school, they gave me one rule and one rule alone: I could have suitors but no serious relationships until I was 18 years old—a rule that I used to hate but nonetheless followed.

My Mom’s mantra is pretty simple—if you decide to marry in high school, you’ll probably end up with someone who’s also in high school; if you decide to marry in college, you’ll probably end up with someone who’s also still in college; but once you graduate, you will realize that the world is filled with different kinds of guys and you can now choose which one to settle down with. As I grew older, I realized that parents really do know what’s best, and in my world, their opinions rank the highest.

Over the years, my parents have always welcomed some of my boyfriends with open arms; they have never stopped me from entering any relationship I choose. Even if they had doubts before, they kept them to themselves and allowed me to see them for myself. Though I appreciate the fact that they let me make my own mistakes and decisions, I always long to hear their take on people.

I’ve never been a fan of the "against-all-odds" kind of love stories. For me, I’d rather be with someone that the people in my world, especially my family and friends, approve of. That’s why I decided to fish for my parents’ opinion of Logan that one morning back in December. What they told me was short, surprising, and perhaps, the most blatant of all.
