"Nasaan ka na?"
Nicia asked over the phone. "As usual, one hour late ka na naman. Namumuti na ang buhok namin dito sa Happy Lemon."

"Wait lang," I replied. "Hindi pa tapos 'yung event, e. Mag-shopping na muna kayo diyan sa Greenhills."

Two days after Nicia and I patched things up online, the three of us (Gail, Nicia, and I) scheduled a mega tipid shopping spree in Greenhills. But that morning, I had to attend an event with Lily in Crowne Plaza for a Samsung product launch. It was a good thing I didn't leave early because that was also the time I won first prize in the raffle--a freakin' 40" 3D Samsung Series 7 LED TV!

That's the reason I gave Gail and Nicia for my tardiness yet again.

It seemed like I had imagined the recent fight with Nicia that lasted almost two months. We spent what was left of the day shopping, talking, and catching up on each other's lives. For the very first time, I felt that they actually listened to me when I started to talk about my relationship.

For the first time, Gail didn't flash her mobile phone in front of me to check her Facebook account or send text messages, and Nicia didn't cut my story short by rehashing--for the nth time--what went wrong in her own relationship. For the first time, I felt that they actually knew who Matt was and the part he played in my life; for the first time, I felt that two of my best friends were actually there in front of me, in the same room, at the same time. As I have ranted in previous posts, there were times when their minds were elsewhere, whereas I, on the other hand, was more than willing to bend rules to help them out.

And for the first time, I actually felt that we were back in college when not a single guy was able to keep us from cutting classes to meet up at Gateway Mall for burgers, fries, and tall soft drinks.

I guess real friends are the hardest to let go of.
