The van dropped us off a little before 3PM in KokosNuss Garden Resort & Restaurant, located just along the main road. We had our welcome drinks and a late, late lunch with another power couple.

Arya and Mel belong to the group of friends who know us well as a couple. They're Logan's officemates from his old "Happy People" office who became our close friends. They recently got engaged, and in so many ways, they're like our jet-setting version because, as couples, we enjoy the same things like traveling and wedding expos (yes, we do that, so in case Logan and I get engaged, we can always pull that off! Har har.)

KokosNuss is owned by a retired German engineer and looks like your grandmother's hacienda. They say it's pretty popular among European backpackers, a fact that took so little time to confirm because the four of us were the only Filipino guests they had during our stay.

I think the place is trying to give its foreign guests a taste of the laidback Filipino provincial life. The bigger, air-conditioned rooms are located in the sole two-storey concrete structure they have in the vicinity, while the fan rooms are located in separate nipa huts scattered all over the place.

We figured that, since Coron is an island surrounded by mountains, it should be relatively cold during the night, so we all took the fan room. The nipa hut/fan room was spacious but it only had the bare necessities: one twin-size bed, a ceiling fan, a corner cabinet that we dared not open, two bedside lamps, a mosquito net, a rattan table, and a concealed baul (trunk). There were no TV sets, no mini bars, no fluffy pillows, no comforters, no hot and cold shower. But, you know what, being away from all these modern conveniences can be good for the soul sometimes.

Oh, and did I mention that the fan rooms have a common bathroom? While I said this may actually be good for the soul, I said nothing about it being good for the temper, right?
