The Bedroom Blog Diaries: Are Women Born To Help Shape Men?

Over dinner with Logan’s siblings last year, his older brother kept throwing us not-so-subtle hints about matrimony. When you’re seated right in front of two other couples who might as well be your future in-laws, you really can’t dodge the bullets. The marriage talk started when Kuya VJ (Logan’s sister’s boyfriend) told us about their plans of buying a house somewhere in Antipolo. After a few minutes of financial talk, Logan’s big brother started hinting that we should get married in the very near future.
“Sabagay, marunong na siyang magluto at maglaba,” Logan joked. “Pwede na.”
There are girls who would probably wet their pants sa sobrang kilig, thinking that’s just as good as saying “She’s bride material to me.” But I’m not one of those girls. Words like that are sexist to me.
I turned and gave Logan the most murderous stare I could muster. I knew that he was only joking and he knew right from the start that I won’t do anyone else’s laundry. I’m not helpless. Of course I know how to wash my own clothes, because even if we have helpers at home, my mother insists that her children should know how to do household chores. Para daw hindi nakakahiya sa future in-laws. And seeing how my mother’s Cobra Commander ways would benefit us three children, I have learned how to clean up after myself.
But even before, I have warned Logan that I would never wash his underwear. No way! Kahit asawa na kita, na-ah. Either you hire someone to do it or buy disposable ones. Sigh. Of course, when I’m married, I might end up doing these things anyway, but my 25-year-old self is dead set on never laying a hand on his spoiled underwear or clean up after him in general. They say that 20-something alpha females are made that way.
I had a thought: Are women, even the fun and fearless ones, still expected to succumb to the housewife roles of doing laundry and cooking? And, seriously, are knowledge of these things—cooking, cleaning, general housework—really the benchmarks for bride potential? Doesn't it sound better when guys say “She knows how to budget” or “She knows how to run a business, so pwede na”?
So guys, don’t forget the saying "Don’t tell a woman that her place is in the kitchen. Remember, that’s where the knives are."

3. I don't like the typical views ng pinoys na porket girl eh dapat marunong sa bahay. my mom used to tell me, "nako po ice, pag di ka marunong sa bahay, isosoli ka samen ng asawa mo", to which i'd always reply, "well mom, i'll find a guy who does the chores so i don't have to". wahahaha. but anyway, i guess there will be a time na i would want to do it for my famiily, BUT NEVER dahel sinabi saken ng hubby ko na YOU'RE REQUIRED TO DO IT COZ YOU'RE THE GIRL... that's why when i'm in a relationship, i look at the attitude ng guy kung meron siyang ganong aspect. auko ng ganon eh.
