The Girl He Loved Called Stacy

Their story was not extraordinary. It didn’t involve crossing oceans, climbing mountains, or going against the tidal clans. It was, in fact, very common.
He met her in college, on their senior year—the year he made the men’s soccer varsity team and she was a cheer dancer. Like I said, he used to suffer from too much pep. He needed a pep outlet, thus sucker, I mean soccer.
Despite being the lanky boy who, thank goodness, didn’t wear his bling-bling during soccer practice, he was quite obnoxious while she was quite serene; gangsta while she’s angelic. What started as the battle of wits sparked a curiosity and understanding that led to a serious and lasting relationship of almost three years.
It was, perhaps, the curse of raging hormones that failed to shut down his roaming Romeo instincts. He loved Stacy, but he loved girls, and the rest was history.
“It’s been two years now,” he said. “I never got her back.”
We were sitting in one of the patio tables outside Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, sipping cafe lattes. I sat there, stunned into silence. Confusion, fear, sympathy, pain…I was feeling so many things at the same time.
The night sky started to let down a soft drizzle, as if mocking me. I listened as the small droplets made rhythmic noises on the patio’s umbrella. I was scared to meet his gaze, but I didn’t have to look at him to know what he’s feeling…
Have you ever felt that? That even without words, you feel another’s pain, joy, regret. I haven’t, until tonight.
“Is that the reason you’re single?” I asked, feeling the warm cup of dark, bittersweet liquid in my hands.
“Yes,” Matt said after a while. “I don’t want to get hurt again.”
“You’re missing out on a lot of things, you know,” I said.
“I know,” he said softy.
Silence.
“Maybe someday, I don’t have to wallow anymore,” he said after a long while.

8. Their story was not extraordinary.-I think a love story should not always be extraordunary for a person have the fear to love again. If you got your heart so broken and you got hurt so bad,It was never easy. Poor Matt. and ouch for V too...
