Stacy is also a writer. She's almost four years my senior, but she looks way too young to be 30.

I met her at Banapple in Ayala Triangle Gardens--the same place where I met Tweet Sering, the writer I'd long wished to meet in person, almost half a year ago. The air felt hot and heavy in this congested, concrete jungle that was once my playground. It's the city where Matt and I used to meet for our caffeine fix and that unknown thing that keeps couples and non-couples (and those in between) up all night.

I can't remember now how little effort it took to arrange that meeting, when, in all honestly, I'm the one who was always curious about seeing this girl in the flesh. Finally meeting the person who changed Matt forever was, for me, a turning point. I hadn't read a single article Stacy had written for that local fashion magazine where she worked, and I felt uneasy when I met her for the first and last time--all because I had envied her from a distance for as long as I can remember.

Stacy's long, dark hair fell straight and loose. Her eyes were big and her skin was smooth. She barely had any makeup on, save for soft red lipstick and mascara that made her peepers look bigger and more dramatic. For someone who works in a fashion magazine, it was almost shocking to see how simply she dressed: just a pink top, black leggings, and strappy sandals. She wore a big pair of sunglasses that day (ones that I like to call "bubuyog shades") and carried a big yellow bag.

We exchanged awkward "hi"s. We ordered coffee and cakes, then settled down on one of the patio tables outside the small cafe.

She's finally here, I thought. She's right in front of me. The girl I only saw in photos years ago.

It was almost eerie watching her stare back at me. Except for her skin tone and big eyes, she looks like my mirror image.
